Description & Analysis

The Bright Star

A naked blond woman (who could be in the beginning stages of pregnancy) pours water from two jugs.  The jug on the left has a thinner stream and it lands on the grass.  The water spreads out into five paths.  One path enters into the pool of water to her right.  In her right hand, the water (from the jug) flows more heavily.  Her right foot appears to be resting on top of the water (like the story of Jesus performing a miracle) as it swirls in a circular pattern. In the background we see four white stars on her right and three stars on her left with a large yellow star in the middle. To me, this represents the Sun. Each star has eight points. The grass seems to be of rough terrain, with hills, and weeds — almost desert-like.

Ibis Bird on Tree

In the background we have a tree with a bird (most likely an Ibis) resting on it. The African sacred Ibis is associated with Thoth, the God of Knowledge, Music, the Arts, Writing, and Science.  The polarity of Aquarius-Leo covers all these themes.

The water jugs connect to the Temperance card which is ruled by Sagittarius and is sextile to the Star card (Aquarius).

The next major tarot card in my Rider-Waite pack of cards, is the Moon.  The Moon ruled by Neptune and Neptune rules Pisces.  The water that is being poured into the pond by the lady, represents conscious emotional thoughts about one’s surroundings being poured into the pool of consciousness.  Aquarius, the conscious Air sign pours the consciousness of humanity into the waters of Pisces, the subconscious Water sign.  Pisces acts like a water filter.

Pool of Consciousness

A Brief Poem

Joseph Naft writes…

Reworking an analogy due to J. G. Bennett (Energies 1964, p. 90), if we compare the sensitive energy to the images on a movie screen, the conscious energy forms the screen itself. Consciousness enables us to be aware of our sensitive awareness. The still pool of consciousness underlies, permeates, and surrounds our ordinary awareness, in the relationship of context to content. This cognizant stillness of pure consciousness corresponds to sitting in the darkened movie theater with no images on the screen, nor sounds from the audio system. Like the screen during the movie, the subtle blank slate of consciousness remains profoundly difficult to recognize, because of its inherent emptiness. Chronically immersed in and concealed by our sensitive energy, consciousness usually remains indistinct and lost to us. The sensitive energy movie so captivates us that we lose ourselves. Transported by the images, we forget the theater, the screen, and even our own existence. Inner Frontier, Includes .mp3 recording.

I know what I know.  Are you ready to know?  Good and evil. Neutrality. Feminine awareness.  Deep knowledge.  Forbidden knowledge.  Being of service to others. Purification of self for other.  Passing tests to gain wisdom. Purity. Intuition.  Guarded insight. Danger. Description

A woman sits solemnly draped in blue and white.  These colours symbolize purity, peace, and communication.  A white cross is located in the middle of her chest symbolizing her love of spiritual awareness and devotion.  On top of her nun-like veil, sits a head piece (coronet) in the shape of a white circle and curved arches.  This can represent phases of the moon, a crystal ball and stand, or a peeled open fruit all representing sight, intuition, and reproduction.

In her hands, she humbly holds a loosely rolled document with the letters showing as TORA.  If we pulled out the document to expose the full word, we might find the letters TORAH which is the Jewish sacred book of traditions and laws of behaviour.  The word Torah means Teaching.  The woman is a teacher; however, she presents as shy, introspective, or hesitant in what she might teach.  There’s an uncertainty and she’s not biting at the bit to tell you what she knows.  So we could say few will be taught by her and likely only those that will not move her emotionally.

At the base of her flowing garment is a very large quarter moon of bright yellow almost having the feel of a large curved sword.  She is flanked by two columns.  One column is black and has a B on it which means Boaz and the other column is white with a J on it which means Joachim.  These two pillars represent the concept of duality while the woman represents middle and neutral ground.

Behind the woman is a curtain with a pattern of *pomegranates (fruit of forbidden knowledge) with its seeds exposed yet in tact (as if an X-ray image), palm trees, and foliage aiding in strength and conviction for what lays ahead.  The pomegranate fruit represents growth, creation, but also the potential that it’s a forbidden fruit of the Adam and Eve myth.  It may be foretelling that any who, enter behind the curtain, may not wholly come back as they were before.  They will have changed.

All of these objects obscure the water in the back which is further reference to intuition and sight, namely subconscious that can not be easily grasped.

*Symbolism of the Pomegranate in Judaism

As per Wikipedia

The Book of Exodus [52] describes the me’il (“robe of the ephod“) worn by the Hebrew High Priest as having pomegranates embroidered on the hem. According to the Books of Kings [53] the capitals of the two pillars (Jachin and Boaz) that stood in front of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem were engraved with pomegranates. It is said that Solomon designed his coronet based on the pomegranate’s “crown” (calyx).[48]

The pomegranate appears on ancient coins of Judea. When not in use, the scroll handles of Torah scrolls are sometimes covered with decorative silver globes similar in shape to “pomegranates” (rimmonim) Some Jewish scholars believe that it was the pomegranate that was the forbidden fruit of the Garden of Eden.[54] Pomegranates also symbolize the mystical experience in the Jewish mystical tradition, or kabbalah, with the typical reference being to entering the “garden of pomegranates” or pardes rimonim; this is also the title of a book by the 16th-century mystic Moses ben Jacob Cordovero.

The pomegranate is also connected to Pluto and the underworld… psychic knowledge beyond the veil.

This will be a long w.i.p. (work in progress) as there is so much to learn about a single Tarot card and there are 78 of them! Please free to add your own thoughts and ideas about any of the cards (in their appropriate post). The insights are mine unless I state otherwise. I’m aware of the words of other’s but this category is about reflection. However, under the astrology heading I’m learning more so it might not be my own words (and I will give credit where credit is due). And as I glean new understanding and more knowledge, under headings of interest, I will continue to edit and record.

The Fool is the first card in the Tarot card’s deck of 22 major arcana cards. Twenty-one more cards take us on a journey of a lifetime with all the wonderful up’s and down’s we receive and the Fool sets the pace.
